Love Does

Have you all read the book "Love Does" by Bob Goff? I listened to it on audiobook in the last year and recently have had many encounters with people who live out Love Does.
Let me give you examples of what I mean.

My discipleship leader, Annetta, and her friend, Hollie, offered to throw a fundraiser party for me in July. HUGE blessing. Annetta had only been married for a few weeks and was still getting settled into the house with her husband. Hollie and I had met maybe twice before and she blew me away with how willing she was to jump in and say 'of course I'll help.' The party was a huge blessing, a forum for me to be able to tell friends and family about what I'll be doing in Haiti and how they can support the cause, a time of prayer, and just a sweet time of love and support. During the party, Annetta was already planning a mission trip to Haiti in early spring for friends and supporters. After the party, Hollie came up to me and said something to the effect of: "So I was thinking.. I have a few days off at the end of September and I think I'll just make a trip to Haiti and help you get settled in and see what equipment the clinic (Women and Children's clinic I'll be coordinating/running) has for when medical and dental teams come. Hollie is a dentist and owns a Dental practice in Dallas.
WHAT?! This is the woman I had met maybe twice when she offered to throw me a fundraising party. Love Does.. and the way I've seen the body of Christ practice that has been astounding and a blessing beyond words.

Fast forward to this vacation. As many of you know I've been on vacation for a couple weeks -- seeing friends and family that I won't see in quite some time. I spent a week in Michigan and then headed to Denver to see Lindy and mountains. In between Michigan and Denver I had about a day in Chicago. It's just the way the travel plans worked out and I really had no idea what I was going to do in Chicago other than wander around. A friend from work happened to call while I was in Michigan and I mentioned I was going to Chicago. Susie put me in touch with her friend who lives in Chicago, Janet. I thought Janet and I might grab a cup of coffee and at least I'd have one thing to do while I was in Chicago. Nope. Janet gave me a tour of pretty much everything in Chicago in 1 day! She totally took care of me and even escorted me to and from the train and gave me a pass to get to the airport. It was an incredible blessing and I had never met Janet prior to that day!

We even met a friend who was traveling alone so we invited him along with us for the day!

Thanks for a great day in Chicago, Janet, and most of all being the hands and feet of Christ!

There are so many examples of Love Does. Friends bidding on a donated David Yurman necklace for $200 and handing me a $500 check, staying up until 1:00am making informational cards for me to pass out about I'm doing, etc. etc. etc. It's really incredible when the people of God DO because of how God has lavished His love on us.
God, help me to be a person that loves well, that DOES, because of Your great love for me, who You say I am, and what You call me to do.

Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Stay tuned for part 2: God Does.

Thank you for not only being hearers of the word but DOERS (James 1:22).
